Staying inspired, motivated and on track with our dreams can be a challenge. But there are simple things we can do that will make a difference.
Live Life Happy
- Do at least one thing a day that makes you truly happy
- Take a few minutes each day to sit in stillness
- Be present in each moment, with yourself and others
- Take time away from the screen to immerse in nature
- Find enjoyment in each thing you do, even if it might seem dull in the moment
Being inspired is not something we “do” once and then are magically set for life. As we experience setbacks and the roller coaster of life, we have to create an environment that allows us to bounce back motivated.
Zig Zigglar said: “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”
Same goes for inspiration, joy, gratitude, and happiness. Creating space and time for cultivating success habits is a must if we want to live life on our terms.
Happy Things and Purpose
Finding what makes you happy is not always an easy task for many of us. The good news is that you don’t have to have it all figured out to begin your journey there The more you do and experiment with different activities, the easier it will become to identify.
Think back to when you were a child. What made you excited? Was there a certain thing you liked doing? Or several hobbies you liked! If you don’t remember at all, then create time (even 10-15 minutes) each day, and do one new thing.
It could be writing in a journal one day, sketching the next, playing an instrument, pull out the knitting project you’ve been wanting to do, cook something different that you might not usually make… The key here is just to do. The more you start to DO, even if you don’t think you’re “good at it”, the more you’ll get in the mindset of enjoying the moment of creating.
Each day, if you’re trying something different or working on project, you’ll eventually find a sense of happiness.
As you may have read in our other articles, we love using creativity as a way to inspire us to move forward. When you’re moving forward, it’s harder to feel dull, sad, angry, or even indifferent about life. Sometimes it’s the lack of feeling alive, and the hum-drum routines of daily life, that get us in a rut to begin with.
Give yourself permission to break free of that rut. 🙂
Gratitude, Presence, and Journalling
The most important way to stay inspired is one of the most simple… Not easy! But simple. Living in gratitude.
Gratitude is a state of mind that pushes out the negative thoughts. Tony Robbins says: “You cannot be angry and grateful at the same time.” When you look at the blessings, big and small, in your life, you’ll start feeling a renewed sense of purpose.
You go from living in anxiety, fear, anger, and sadness, to living in the present moment. When you’re living “In the Now!” (as Caesar Millan says) you are not thinking about what’s coming next.
If you struggle with finding that moment of stillness to reflect, there are two tools we recommend: Meditation and a Journal.
While meditation might not be for everyone, we recommend at least trying it out for a week. 10-20 minutes, nothing major, we’re not asking you to sit on top of a mountain and forget the rest of your life. 😉
Here’s a seven day Presence Mediation Journey to kickstart the process if that intrigues you.
If you’re ADHD, or just cant even bare the thought of sitting for any amount of time, we completely understand. Seriously, there are some mornings where there is no stillness to be found. 🙂 The cool thing about meditation is that it can be an active process. Taking a walk, digging in the garden, just doing an activity in silence so you’re still moving yet also are able to let your mind relax.
Journaling is also a sort of active meditation. If you’re interested the two journals we recommend are The Wisdom Journal and The Five Minute Journal.
The Wisdom Journal is more for free-writing your thoughts and has lots of quotes to keep you in the inspired mindset. The Five Minute Journal is a guided gratitude journal that walks you through a process of creating 5 minutes in each day to appreciate life.
Wanna know the biggest ‘secret’ of all?
There is no One Way to achieve a happy life.
That can be both scary and freeing. Sometimes we want a “system” or a methodical way to approach our life, and that’s okay you’re not alone in thinking that. There are tons of programs, podcasts, and videos that help and we’ll link to our favorites at the end of the article.
At the end of the day, you get to choose what “way(s)” you resonate with most.
Feel free to share how you stay inspired on the Boomers Reinvented Facebook Page! We’d love to hear from you. 🙂
