There are many, many things that get better with age.
With my 65th birthday fast approaching, I am appreciating this fact more and more! But one thing that has surprisingly improved for me personally as I have got older is my tennis game. It’s strange, but at 64 I’m playing better tennis than at any other time in my life.
Of course, a large part of this is regular practice. That’s why, when I am on Necker, you will always find me on the tennis court long before most people are out of bed. It sets up my day perfectly, gets the adrenaline running, keeps me in shape and gets my brain working too.
This year we will once again host the Necker Cup, the world’s most fun pro-am tennis tournament, here on the island. With the likes of Novak Djokovic, Marion Bartoli, Rafa Nadal and Kim Cljisters competing in previous years, I need to make sure my game stays in decent shape too! Look out for our 2015 line-up coming soon.
But there is another reason why I am pleased my tennis game is going well at the moment. 20 years ago I made a friendly bet with my children that they would not beat me before my 65th birthday. I have one more month to hang in there! I’m not sure whether I’ll extend it to 70.
